Circulation Loan Periods

Books, magazines, audio books and music are loaned for a 3-week period.

DVDs are loaned for a 1-week period.

Items may be renewed unless it has been previously requested by another patron. Patrons may renew in person, by phone or online.  When calling to renew items, it is helpful to have the barcode number of the library card.

The Langley-Adams Library does not charge fines for items.  Other member Consortium Libraries may charge fees and fines.  Fines and fees can be paid at the Langley-Adams Library if patrons wish to pay them at the time of checkout.

Overdue materials will generate reminder notices. Patrons will be notified by a phone call, notices sent through the mail or by e-mail.  Patrons will also be reminded at the Front Desk when checking out if there are any outstanding materials and/or fines or fees.

Interlibrary Loan

Patrons may request items from other MVLC libraries through the online catalog. You will be asked to log into your account using your Library Card number and PIN number.  Patrons may also request items in person or over the phone.

Patrons may also request materials not found in the MVLC catalog through the Commonwealth Catalog or by requesting Interlibrary Loan service at the library.  These requests generally take up to 10 days to arrive.

Privacy

By state law, all activity on a patron’s card is confidential, despite the age of the person. This means that children are afforded the same privacy and confidentiality rights as an adult.  This means that when an item is overdue, notices are given only to the child even though the parent is legally responsible for the actions of the minors in their households.

We do offer Family Library Cards, where the parent(s) are the main names on the card, but each child is also listed and may use that card to check out materials.

If you are picking up materials for another person, please have their library card with you.  This implies that the person is giving you permission to pick up items for them.  The person may also call the library and give the name of the person picking up the item for them, and it will be noted on the item that someone else has permission to pick the item up.

Due to the many illnesses currently going around, mask wearing at the library is encouraged and recommended!
